“I had an amazing osteopath, someone who works with hardcore dancers,” he says. “It was a constant thing. And occasionally it was middle-of-the-day emergency acupuncture sessions, a bit of [pain reliever] Nurofen. At moments, it was pretty intense, but the absolute reality was you got to get up every day, out of the chair, and so many of the people that I met couldn’t. And you’re constantly reminded of basically how lucky you are.“ - Eddie speaking to Buzzfeed about &

But whist acting with this new outfit,
it seemed like he was a totally different person and we said, “Oh no no no,

with different colours. So, we changed the costume, but it’s a more modified

Eddie + Felicity: this is onscreen chemistry at its best.
“James will have an opinion. Then maybe Felicity will say, ‘Actually, maybe I’ll try it in this seat.’ You’re playing with ideas. But virtually every single day on this, I’d be like, ‘I can’t do that. I can’t move from here.’ She has to do all the heavy lifting — a lot of it, as far as keeping the energy in scenes. It was really complicated. She was a sensational friend throughout it.“ - Eddie, on working with Felicity in &
nbsp; The Theory of Everything.
“Felicity began to taunt him, and he began to respond to it, and it just got very interesting. It was one those important moments in the film where you knew the actors were going to work for each other and off of each other and help each other, even though it felt like it was kind of cruel to be mocking someone as she was doing. But it was very helpful to the performance. They began to do this several times in the film. There would be off-camera provocations — or encouragements. That’s a very good example of actors trusting their instincts and doing things that aren’t in the script or aren’t being asked for."

Perfect quotes. Their offscreen chemistry, as evidenced in the dozens of interviews and Q&A sessions they did for Theory of Everything, was also a joy to behold. I’m excited both for their performances to come and to hear their intelligent, passionate, funny take on their work again.
Yesterday, we heard from The Aeronauts producer Todd Lieberman that “a top priority is authenticity,” but since the casting for this film was first announced, we’ve pointed out that history was re-written in this re-teaming of Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. Today, British media has picked up on that revision, as well as a simmering backlash from historians and scientists.
“So while the meteorologist Glaisher will be memorialised in The Aeronauts in a performance by Eddie Redmayne, the daring balloonist Coxwell has been replaced with an imaginary female aeronaut named Amelia Wren. Tom Harper, the film’s writer and director, who oversaw the recent BBC adaptation of War &
; Peace, has forgone accuracy for the opportunity to place Redmayne opposite Felicity Jones, who starred with him in The Theory of Everything…
“Keith Moore, head of library at the (Royal Society), said that Coxwell’s story should be better known. ‘It’s a great shame that Henry isn’t portrayed because he performed very well and saved the life of a leading scientist,’ he told The Daily Telegraph. ‘Glaisher was just looking at his instruments — he was very much the cargo.’”
Still, it’s sad to see Eddie involved in another controversial casting choice, and although the script was in high demand, both actors deserve better than being placed in a film that will undoubtedly face a strong backlash, not only from those who value the true story, but from the intense scrutiny of women’s roles in this #TimesUp era.
Felicity is in the top ranks of actresses now, having earned an Oscar nomination for The Theory of Everything — which many argued was really Jane Hawking’s story — cast as a strong lead
in a Star Wars spinoff, in a range of challenging roles, and in the highly anticipated story of the early battles of American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, set for release later this year.
With so many revelatory and inspiring women’s stories to be told, and so many charming and complex male-female dynamics to be explored, our excitement over their re-teaming has to be tempered with the doubts about this film — which promise to rise as high as Glaisher and Coxwell’s explorations.
Striking, indeed! We learn about additional cast members, and the most stunning fact: That WAS Eddie and Felicity flying high over the English countryside recently, not stunt actors.
“A top priority for us on The Aeronauts is authenticity. With that in mind, we intend to do as much balloon filming in the sky as the weather will allow. This image was taken after we launched Felicity and Eddie 2,000 feet in the air, performing their scripted scene, while a helicopter captured it all. We’re fortunate that Felicity and Eddie have the nerve to do these stunts themselves as it authenticates our entire approach”, said Lieberman.
The Danish Girl is honestly one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. The gentle touches & the intensity of the emotion… & even when she’s living as Einar, you can clearly see Lili wanting to shine through. Just takes my breathe away & breaks my heart at the same time.
"Whatever Eddie's got, that's what you spend your life looking for. He had a unique presence, completely untrained, the kind of magnetism that only great actors have...the most astonishing natural ability. You can't teach that." — Dallas Smith
